RYAN HUMBERT SIGNS WITH ROCK RIDGE MUSIC
New Album, Sometimes The Game Plays You, Due Out June 12, 2012
On June 12, 2012, singer-songwriter Ryan Humbert will release Sometimes The Game Plays You—an Americana pop album with big, modern hooks steeped in the cherished heritage of great American songwriters like Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams, and Bob Dylan. The performer, who just signed with Rock Ridge Music, will be releasing the album through the label, with distribution via ADA.
“I’m very excited to be teaming up with Rock Ridge Music for the release of Sometimes The Game Plays You,” says Humbert. “Their staff has a ton of experience and they really understand the needs of musicians like myself. It’s a pleasure to be working with them.”
“There’s the music and the art, then you have the other key component—the work ethic,” says Rock Ridge Music CEO Tom Derr. “Ryan has both.”
Executive Produced by Jill Bacon Madden and produced by Humbert in Nashville with engineer Brian Harrison (Shelby Lynne, Lucinda Williams, Garrison Starr), Sometimes The Games Plays You captures the warmth of the music live on tape. Humbert’s cohorts included his trusty backup band, along with marquee names like Ken Coomer (Wilco, Steve Earle), John Jackson (Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Shelby Lynne), Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, John Mellancamp, Dwight Yoakam) and Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Dixie Chicks, Jimmy Page, Jakob Dylan), among others. The album was mixed by Grammy-winner Chad Carlson (Taylor Swift, Chris Isaak, Trisha Yearwood, Jewel).
“This album was a lot of fun to make,” Humbert says. “Having most of my regular touring band record with me, as well as working with some of Nashville’s finest session players, was also something I really enjoyed. We recorded it quickly, live to tape, which left very little time to second guess anything. Because of that, I feel it’s the most honest album I’ve made thus far in my career.”
Sometimes The Game Plays You is the follow-up to 2010’s Old Souls, New Shoes. Humbert has also released an acoustic album, two more full-length albums, and two duet albums with frequent collaborator and backup vocalist Emily Bates. He has maintained an active touring schedule with an impressive 150 shows-per-year itinerary that has had him opening for such diverse and esteemed artists as Train, Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Elvis Costello, Chris Isaak, Third Eye Blind, Matt Nathanson, Pete Yorn, Foreigner, The Zac Brown Band, Josh Ritter, The Gin Blossoms, and Shelby Lynne.
In conjunction with the release of Sometimes The Game Plays You, the Akron, OH-based musician is planning two special hometown area shows: a June 1st CD Listening Party and acoustic performance at Buzzbin Magazine‘s record store in Canton, OH as part of First Friday, and a June 16th CD release party at Lock 3 Amphitheater in downtown Akron, OH with special guests Tracey Thomas and Yankee Bravo. Humbert has also booked a New York City date (July 12th at Rockwood Music Hall) and a Philadelphia date (July 13th at the Grape Room). Additional touring is planned and will be announced soon.
“This album wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible help of our loyal fans, as well as my executive producer Jill Bacon Madden,” says Humbert. “It’s because of them there’s even an album to be releasing. I’m humbled by their love and support.”
